The #PoliticsOfCare means ensuring everyone feels safe in their community.
Community safety has been at the top of Minnesotans’ minds. We must support public safety by collaborating with law enforcement, investing in specific community needs, and working upstream to prevent cycles of violence.
Fund First Responder Resources
Emergency responders need us to fully fund the resources and tools they need to intervene and save lives in the community. From increasing social workers who can address mental health crises to providing resources specific to local governments, we must support the people who support us when we’re in need.
Common Sense Gun Laws
I stand with the majority of responsible gun owners that supported our work to expand universal criminal background checks to all gun transfers in our state. As suicide by gun and domestic violence rates rise, red flag laws will save Minnesotans’ lives while respecting second amendment rights. Without infringement, we have enacted common sense gun legislation that keeps guns out of the hands of those in crisis and those who pose a legitimate threat to themselves or others. False reporting under red flag laws carries penalties to deter malfeasance, and I am confident we can make sure all Minnesotans are safe while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. Safe storage laws have not been passed, and I support the MN proposed model (which is less stringent than the NRA’s recommendations) to ensure children are protected from accidents that happen too often when weapons are not securely stored.
Roads and Bridges We Can Count On
We rely on the quality of our roads and bridges every day. As our loved ones commute to school and work and as we visit family and friends, we need confidence that our roads and bridges are well-maintained. Our latest infrastructure investments will make a big difference in how we can safely commute, and there is still more work to do. We must continue to be innovative and fund solutions that keep us safe on the roads, increase public transportation access, support local public transportation like MVTA, and we must listen to the younger people in our community who need adequate transportation options to commute to work from the communities they can afford to live in.
